ARTIST STATEMENT

The landscape and historical architecture have always been awe-inspiring to me, and is what led me on my journey to document the passing of time. In my latest series, "Love Letter Tour," I explore the moments captured during family travels, which also coincides with years of constant unemployment and instability.

My work lands where photography falls short and memories begin to fade. With a subtle glimpse of myself in a washed out reflection or as a shadow across a marble floor, I am attempting to make a lasting impression, even for a split second. By lingering on these flickering memories, I have learned that filling in the blank spaces is where I find myself, within the abstraction. Much like the fractures in an Italian facade, I pile on layers of paint while the remnants of the painting's past crackles through.

This series is inspired by my fellow Philadelphian Artist, Stephen “ESPO” Powers' "Love Letter Tour," a series of 50 hand-painted mural signs around West Philly. In a similar fashion, I hope my work also encourages complete strangers to open their eyes and see the sunrise.
